Lizzie Powell is the new state champion and record holder! She beat the record set in 2002 by another XH pole vaulter Kira Barcus by 3 inches. The previous state record of 12 feet was also tied in 2007 by Anne Marie Gordon (Xtreme Heights athlete) and in 2008 by Emma Dejarnette (Atlee HS).

Shortly after winning the state title, Lizzie was diagnosed with lymphoma, a form of cancer. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she fights that battle. Brandon Miles of MileStat.com wrote an article with more information.
