BRINKLEY GIVES RAMS THIRD STRAIGHT CAA WEEKLY HONOR
RICHMOND, Va. – Any time you can head into a championship with some momentum, it’s a very good thing.
That’s exactly what the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s track & field squad is doing after senior Kevin Brinkley (Richmond, Va.) picked up the team’s third straight Colonial Athletic Association weekly honor.
After breaking a school record in the pole vault for the second straight week, Brinkley was named CAA Field Athlete of the Week.
“The one word to describe Kevin is reliable,” Head Coach Julian Spooner said. “As a coach, it’s great to have an athlete that you know will always be in the discussion to win an event and that’s exactly what Kevin does every week in the pole vault”
This past weekend was no different as Brinkley lined up against some of the best in the country at the prestigious Penn Relays. He cleared 16’ 6 ¾” to break the school-record for the second straight week. It also equaled the height of LSU’s Thomas Reinecke and Joseph Caraway, but a jump off placed the senior third in the event.
Brinkley and the Rams will now look to bring home VCU’s first conference title since 2006 at the CAA Championships this weekend, hosted by George Mason University.
